CICS Explorer plugin needs the Top 20 type view

In order to quickly look at the previous days worst performing transactions (response times, # tcb switches etc), the Explorer plugin needs to have that capability.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Enterprise Tooling
    Product - CICS Performance Analyzer

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Enterprise Tooling
    Product - CICS Performance Analyzer

This requirement is satisfied by CICS PA 5.2 which was announced 7th April 2014 with a planned general availability date of June 13th 2014. For more information see the IBM CICS Tools for z/OS, V5.2 announcement letter

We are making significant enhancements to the CICS PA plug-in in CICS PA 5.2 which was announced on April 7th and will GA on 13th June 2014. Many new metrics have been added to the Performance summary explorer templates and new visualization of statistics and performance data has been added. The data filtering capability allows filtering of records to highlight the ones that exceed values such as Response time, CPU, Getmain for 31 bit storage etc.

Thanks for the update Kevin. When the systems programmers start installing FOP and "sysout2pdf" let me know if they have any problems configuring these.

I touched base with the CICS systems programmer yesterday and asked him if he ever installed the "sysout2pdf" product (that we could use as you suggest above). He said that he had been waiting on the z/OS systems programmer to install something called FOP (that sysout2pdf" requires?). It just wasn't high on his priority list (it was requested to be installed in March 2011!).

My intent (if we ever get sysout2pdf installed) is to have an RSS feed setup to automagically put these reports (whatever we run overnight) into Outlook.

The trouble is that sometimes it takes eons to get stuff installed on the mainframe here. I've asked for FOP etc to be raised on the priority list but they work in a different department, so who knows?

Hmmmm...probably not. Let me look into the suggestion that you made here. Only 2 of us currently using PA here (the sysprog that installed it and me from the development side). So, we are still "feeling our way around".

Hmmmmm.....here the sysprogs install and setup the overnight jobs. Me, as a software developer, look at PA (with the plugin) as an easy way to look at the previous days "issues" (if any).

It may be that the PDF approach would be OK. I'll check with the systems programmer and have him set this up so that I can look at it.

Meanwhile, we do have the HDB setup and intend to keep this data for several years to enable checks of, say, what we are doing this MMDD this year compared to the same day last year, the year before etc.

I'm not sure that we would need that data in the HDB, but let me check. We are still exploring, when possible, what we can see with PA.

Let me get back to you.

    Regards,

    Kevin

    Given that you can:

    1) Tailor and run the CICS PA top-20 LISTX reports for a set of transactions overnight
    2) Output the results to a PDF using the CICS PA sysout2pdf function
    3) Launch the PDF

Would you want to load large volumes of data into DB2 to view these LISTX (not summary) reports via the plug-in?
