Additional field for TCPIPSERVICE resource definition (GSE Requirement GGCIC11001)

A special IP stack can be addressed by its IP address only (or the default stack must be used). A specification of the stack by the name of the STC would make the definition more transparent. This is already implemented in Integrated IMS Connect ("HOSTNAME=tcpip_jobname").

Whilst this requirement is valid, based on our current plans and priorities, it is not likely that this could be implemented in the next 12 months, or in the next CICS TS release. Correspondingly this requirement is being declined at this point. The requirement will be kept in the RFE system and might be reassessed in the future. You also have an opportunity to resubmit in twelve months time if you wish it to be reconsidered then.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

Email received from Ralph Reppin. Pasting the contents here:

    Hi John,
Thanks a lot for taking care of this requirement.

    1. We are using HTTP protocol (mostly inbound). We are not using the IPADDRESS field because the Network people (and neither we) don't like native IP addresses to be coded in the system. The IPADDRESS field is nice but it would be much smarter if the IPD Stack can be addressed by it's name like can be done in IMS (HOSTNAME=tcpip_jobname). This make us independent from Network changes.
We have up to five TCPIPServices defined in a single CICS region.

    2. We didn't evaluate the BPXTCAFF utility. To tell you the truth we (the CICS group) were not aware of this utility. This utility does not provide the flexibilty we like to have. A restart of CICS is required to apply changes (a big problem in a 24/7 environment) while a TCPIPService can be installed dynamically.

To help clarify this requirement can you provide details to the following questions:
    1. Why using the IPAddress field on the TCPIPSERVICE does not address the requirement to use a specific stack (in particular we need to know what CICS protocol is being used (IPIC, HTTP, ECI), how many of each TCPIPServices are in use per region, and if there are inbound and or outbound sockets used.
    2. If BPXTCAFF utility, which will provide IP stack affinity for a given job, has been evaluated.
