CICS container processing, relating to CICS Web Services

The ability to append data to container, where that container was previously created by a PUT CONTAINER command. Containers are used extensively within CICS Web Services to store multiply-occurring data structures. Application logic is required to assemble the data structure in memory before PUTting it into a container.
Often the application does not know – at the commencement of the assembly – how many occurrences will be required, and therefore the amount of storage needed for the complete structure. To avoid excessive over allocation of fixed storage an application may GETMAIN a reasonable amount of storage initially. If this proves inadequate then the application will GETMAIN a larger block of storage, copy the initial allocation to the new block, FREEMAIN the initial allocation, and continue appending application data to the new block. This process may be repeated multiple times until all required occurrences of the data structure have been assembled, at which point the complete structure is PUT to a container, and a final FREEMAIN is executed to release the application-acquired storage.
