Provide callable service to return text string of EXEC CICS command

The provision of a Callable service which would receive (at least) (i) the address and (ii) length of the Parameter list resulting from the translation of an EXEC CICS command (including the whole of ARG0, (iii) the address and (iv) the length of an “Answer area” and (v) the address of a 4-byte Reason code.

On return, the answer area would contain the ‘anglicised' command (in the manner of CEDF), and the answer area length would contain the length of the result. Register 15 would contain a return code indicating success or otherwise. One such error would indicate that the supplied answer area length is too small, and in this case the supplied answer area length would contain the value required for successful completion.

In the case where the particular returned field(s) can be of considerable length (e.g. COMMAREA), it would be helpful for the caller to specify (via another parameter) the maximum length of any such field(s) to be returned in the answer area. Only the first ‘n' bytes of the field would then be returned.

We have assessed this requirement. We have no current plans for this to be implemented and so this requirement is being declined at this point. The requirement will be kept in the RFE system and might be reassessed in the future. You also have an opportunity to resubmit in twelve months time if you wish it to be reconsidered then.
