This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

CICSPlex Workload Management: Goal / Queue Mode

The CICS Transaction Server V3.1 documentation doesn't contain information about the decision criterias for the CICSPlex Queue and Goal mode.
Following list contains possible topics which should be documented in the official publications (the list may be incomplete, feel free to add additional topics):
- CICS registration with z/OS WLM
- What happens during WLM registration
- Purpose of the Performance Blocks (PB)
- Content of the PB
- Handling of PBs during task attach and task execution (local and cross LPAR)
- Description of the program flow and data for dynamic transaction routing
- Trx attach -> DFHAPRT -> invoke dyn transaction routing program wiht COMMAREA
- Content of the COMMAREA (e.g. information from MVS WLM / MVS service and reporting class token)
-> this information allows CICS to run in GOAL mode
- CICSPlex dynamic distribution program
- Description of the modes (Goal / Queue)
- What are the health indicators and when are these indicators polled/sampled
- Where is the health indicator information kept (data space owned by ESSS)
- Detailed description of the algorithm and its parameters and an example
- Queue: weight = (LinkType * NormalizedLoad * AbendProbability *100) + Health
- Goal: weight = (GoalWeight * LinkType * AbendProbability *100) + health
- Calculation of PI per Service Class: PI_ServClass_n = AvgRespTime_ServClass_n / Sum(AvgRespTimeGoal_ServClass_n
What is the difference between the MVS WLM PI and the CICSPlex PI, where is it stored
- For a set of Service Classes many different PIs are possible but WLM can give resources to one address space only. How
does CICSPlex assign the PIs to the available AORs per LPAR
- Average response Time and Arrival Rate fading (in order to take into account the recent past)
- How is the LPAR seleced
Formula and description of GoalWeight: AOR with lowest load on LPAR will be assigned a GoalWeight = BaseGoalWeight
The other AORs on this LPAR get a GoalWeight = BaseGoalWeight + m * GoalDelta
What is the BaseGoalWeight, m and GoalDelta
- Diagram / Flow of WLM interaction with CICS and CPSM (EUI/WUI, CAS, CMAS, ESSS Data Space, MASes, MVS WLM, routing
pgm EYU9XLOP, ....)
- Why are Service classes with a percentile goal not supported by CICSPlex distribtion program EYU9XLOP

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

This requirement has been re-evaluated. Looking at current plans, it is not likely that this would be implemented in the next two CICS TS releases, so correspondingly this requirement is being rejected. You have an opportunity to resubmit in eighteen months time if you wish it to be considered then.
