Extension to CPSM event detection and routing - for VSAM RLS and SMSVSAM failures

For CICS transactions under CPSM WLM control there is a requirement for WLM to detect when a resource that the transaction is dependent upon becomes unavailable. In this instance, the customer is reliant on VSAM RLS files to complete the transaction. If the SMSVSAM address space fails, all access to VSAM RLS files in the affected LPAR become unusable. CICS is notified with a return code of 16 and the files are closed.

In CICS TS 2.1/2.2 code was added to detect conditions when DB2 was unavailable. This was achieved by setting field DYRABNLC (MVS WLM abnormal condition), in copybook DFHDYPDS.

This requirement requests a similar capability for VSAM RLS but would be equally applicable to any resource the transaction is reliant upon - such as WebSphere MQ or IMS.

The requirement is therefore that CPSM detects such a condition and routes eligible transactions away from the affected CICS regions or LPARs until such time as the problem is resolved.

This RFE is satisfied by CICS TS 5.3 which is generally available from December 11th 2015.

CICS now informs the z/OS Workload Manager when requests fail because connections to IMS, IBM MQ, and VSAM RLS are unavailable. This extends the support for connections to DB2 in previous releases. The CICSPlex SM dynamic routing program uses this information to avoid routing more work to a CICS region to prevent the "storm drain effect".

This is something we would like to address. The RFE is being moved into 'Planned for Future release' status. Please note:
