Unnecesary Page-ins of CPSM dataspace storage can negatively impact CICS workload

CPSM dataspace storage is never freed back to the operating system. Once a chunk of CPSM dataspace storage is used and released, CPSM puts it on a free chain to be used later. Sometimes this storage remains unused for hours or days. During that period of non-use, it is possible that the real frames backing that storage can be stolen. Then when the storage is finally re-used, the TCB trying to access the storage must wait for paging delays as the real frame is paged in from paging datasets. This page-in is unnecessary because the information on the page is not being read.... it is being written to. These unnecessary page-ins can significantly delay work in MAS CICS regions as it is often the QR TCB in the MAS that is blocked while a CPSM task in the MAS is trying to write to the CPSM dataspace storage that is paged out.
.
These unnecessary page-ins need to be avoided. There is a z/OS service called PGSER RELEASE that tells z/OS that it can release all resources backing a chunk of storage. Perhaps CPSM could use something like that for chunks of CPSM dataspace storage after it has been released and before it is re-used. That way, there would be no potential for page-ins when the storage is re-used.
.
This RFE is very similar to RFE 34302.

We have assessed this requirement. We have no current plans for this to be implemented and so this requirement is being declined at this point. The requirement will be kept in the RFE system and might be reassessed in the future. You also have an opportunity to resubmit in twelve months time if you wish it to be reconsidered then.
