Parallel aggregation orchestrated from within CICS.

With LINK, the process is synchronous - the consumer issues a LINK to the provider and the consumer has to wait for the response to be returned. If the business logic of the program requires multiple links (e.g. PGMA LINKs to PGMB then to PGMC etc...) the process is elongated in elapsed terms because PGMC cannot be invoked till PGMA has RETURNed. What we think would be useful is if something like this were to be supported by CICS:
LINK to PGMB with NOWAIT (or something similar)
LINK to PGMC with NOWAIT
LINK to PGMD with WAIT TIMEOUT(x). The effect of the WAIT on the final LINK would have the characteristics of any of the 3 programs returning responses within the timeout interval would be accepted. Any missing the cut-off would be ignored or passed ro some form of 'late response' agent.

    This release introduces four EXEC CICS API commands: RUN TRANSID, FETCH CHILD, FETCH ANY and FREE CHILD. Using these commands, an application developer can run asynchronous transactions in CICS, pass and consume data, and reduce the challenges involved in the management and execution of programs.

    The CICS asynchronous API uses a parent-child model, enabling application developers to use an asynchronous programming model which can improve the responsiveness of applications, especially those which make multiple calls to external services, or which spend a lot of time waiting for the responses of other transactions.

    As part of the parent-child model, the asynchronous API flows the security context of the parent task to the child task, ensuring that the children of any given parent task have the correct security authorization to run. New statistics are also provided to monitor the activity of the asynchronous services domain.
