RELATED IDEAS

CICS RECEIVE/RECEIVE MAP API should have a "NOWAIT" option.

It would be most helpful if the CICS API were to support a "NOWAIT" option on all forms of EXEC CICS RECEIVE / RECEIVE MAP, such that if the API is invoked and terminal data are not immediately available, then the command would immediately complete with EIBRESP=ENDDATA instead of entering a ZCIOWAIT condition.

    Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:

    It saddens me to see good ideas declined just because they might be difficult to deliver.

    The problem here is not only avoiding issuing a ZCIOWAIT, but in dealing with the consequences. There are multiple such places in CICS code such as waiting for data for waiting for ZNAC processing to complete. If the wait did not happen and control returns to the application, you still have to deal with the case of what to do when the data does arrive or ZNAC processing completes. There are also waits because of the state (bracket state, chain state etc.) of the conversations. So, whilst this request might sound simple, the ramifications could be complex . Looking at current plans, it is not likely that this would be implemented in the next two CICS TS releases, so correspondingly this requirement is being rejected.
