Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:

    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

This would be a sizable piece of work. Looking at current plans, it is not likely that this would be implemented in the next two CICS TS releases, so correspondingly this requirement is being rejected. You have an opportunity to resubmit in eighteen months time if you wish it to be considered then.

Using EXCI would require an operational CICS region to access the CFDT, and also the batch process would have to "know" which region to target, plus it would most likely require changes to the batch application itself. Even though we are moving towards 24/7 operation we're not "there" yet, so during the nightly batch cycle it is possible that regions will be shut down, left down for a time, and restarted. "Utopia" for this request would be an implementation of a batch CFDT interface that would perhaps make use of the SUBSYS parameter on the DD statement and would provide CFDT access to the batch application without requiring changes to the application code. Thus if at some future time it were deemed advisable to discontinue CFDT access to a given dataset and revert it to either "plain old" VSAM or RLS VSAM, that could be accomplished easily with no changes required to the batch application. The reverse would also be true.
    Thanks,
    Robert

So, we will ask the obvious question first. Can you use EXCI from batch to invoke a CICS program to update to read the the CFDT?
