Ability to Make the New DFHCE3549 Logon Message Format Optional in CICS TS 6.2

We request the introduction of an optional parameter enabling:

  • Reverting to the previous (short) format of the DFHCE3549 message,
  • Or selecting between the new and the old format,
  • Or using a backward‑compatible message without the additional information.

Possible modes:

Standard Mode (current CICS 6.2 behavior)

DFHCE3549 Sign-on is complete after <n> failed attempts. Last access: ...

Compatibility Mode (historical message)

DFHCE3549 Sign-on is complete (Language ENU).

This setting could be controlled, for example in the SIT

Justification

  • This compatibility mechanism would allow a progressive migration, without impacting systems that depend on the original message format.
  • It prevents having to postpone the CICS upgrade for several months, reducing operational, financial, and compliance risks.
  • Many companies use 3270 screen‑revamping solutions that rely on exact screen text recognition. Offering a compatibility option would significantly ease adoption of CICS TS 6.2 for a broad customer base.

Benefits for IBM and Customers

  • Facilitates customer migration to CICS TS 6.2.
  • Prevents CICS upgrades from being blocked by third‑party tooling limitations.
  • Improves customer satisfaction while preserving default behavior for new deployments.
  • Minimal impact for IBM development teams, as the enhancement consists of an optional message formatting parameter.
