New fields added to message payloads break Web Services and JSON APIs

When CICS is acting as a consumer (requester) of Web Services or APIs, CICS should not fail the request with a parsing error if the external provider adds a new field to their response payload.

Industry best practices indicate that adding new attributes to an existing API should be a non-breaking change for consumers of that API.

Perhaps a new flag could be introduced in the XML/JSON Assistants to indicate the action to take when an unknown field is encountered: Error, Warning message, or Ignore.

We have shipped APAR PI86039 which will help in this area. At mapping level 4.2 it is possible to create applications that tolerate unexpected additional content; but not ignore additional content.
