Service required rebuild of Local and Global Catalogs does not force INITIAL start

On occasions, changes to CICS product code by PTFs requires the CICS Global and Local Catalogs to be redefined - an example of the wording il the PTF HOLD data is:

"The Global and Local Catalogs will need to be deleted, redefined and initialized to allow the changes, introduced
by this PTF, to be effective."

My understanding is that in addition to information on installed resources, information required by the CICS product code is held here which, on occasion, is changed by code fixes requiring the files to be rebuilt.

An INITIAL start can be very disruptive to an environment as all recovery data is discarded. Consequentially, this means care must be taken to shut down the regions with no outstanding units of work to ensure data integrity. Plus any resources installed or changed in the region since the last COLD start have to reapplied.

My proposal is that the CICS utilities DFHRMUTL and DFHSMUTL are changed to have the additional ability to redefine the information required but leave the installed resource and recovery information intact.

This requirement has been evaluated. Looking at current plans, it is not likely that this would be implemented in the next two CICS TS releases, so correspondingly this requirement is being rejected. You have an opportunity to resubmit in twelve months time if you wish it to be considered then.
