Update system logger processing so the RETPD definition parm provides a default retention period for logstream data.

Update logger processing so the RETPD definition parm provides a default retention period for logstream data rather than a fixed retention period. IXGDELET requests for data that has not reached that RETPD should be honored.

From a logstream admin perspective, RETPD is useful to delete old logstream data should the owners of that data neglect to delete it from the logstream. That prevents retention of old and useless data as well as keeps those logstreams below the default 168 extent limit and the use of DSEXTENT records in the couple data set. That is particularly true for test data since it tends to be less actively managed by data owners.

However, in today's environment if the RETPD parm is used it changes the results of processes between (test?) logstreams that have a RETPD parm and (prod?) logstreams that do not have a RETPD parm. Jobs accessing RETPD logstreams to pull data and then delete it have the IXGDELET request negated. That causes incorrect results in subsequent executions when the same logstream data is re-retrieved. As a result, RETPD cannot be specified if there's potential that data owners want to do this type of processing. Not specifying the parm prevents the potential benefits outlined above.

This  requirement needs to be raised against the z/OS system logger. z/OS do not use RFE for requirements. Your IBM rep will need to raise an FITS request for this.
