Authenticate option for server urimaps

There are cases where an application needs to support basic authentication for protected content being served by CICS Web Support. In this situation the application must serve both anonymous and authenticated users. To use basic authentication with URIMAPs with a USAGE of SERVER, one must specify it on the TCPIPSERVICE definition which applies to all traffic on the port. It does not allow for the separation of content that is freely available versus protected material on the same port.

While a URM on the TCPIPSERVICE definition can be written to perform this function, a URIMAP would be ideal for specifying this option. The AUTHENTICATE parameter in the URIMAP resource definition is limited to USAGE of CLIENT. The AUTHENTICATE parameter in the URIMAP could be extended to USAGE SERVER to provide greater flexibility of authentication based on URIMAP vs port.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

As you identified in your request it is already possible to perform this function programatically using the URM.
The TCPIPSERVICE and URIMAP definitions are already complex definitions.
To introduce an additional relationship to these resources to delegate security from TCPIPSERVICE to URIMAP would make the security considerations of the URIMAPs significantly more complex and prone to error.
Therefore we have no current plans to change the implementation of this function.
