DB2 and CICS pre- compilers do not recognize Cobol V5 floating comments

COBOL V5 allows use of "floating comment", sequence space + " * >" followed by a free text.

DB2 pre- compiler (tested with DB2 V10) and CICS pre-compiler (tested with CICS TS 4.2) do not recognize this Cobol V5 syntax comment, and the presence of certain characters in these comments could cause problems .

Please can you confirm that there was no problem when using the CICS integrated translator as part of the Cobol V5 compile as regards translation of the CICS commands and the runtime execution of the CICS commands? I assume also there was no problem with the Cobol V5 comment style in this scenario as regaards comments after the CICS commands ?

The compilers do not parse the EXEC CICS statement.
It passes the statement to CICS to process.
For the compiler to show cross reference information related to data items referenced in the EXEC CICS statements we would need CICS to return this information back to the compiler.

The CICS integrated translator is the one that parses the CICS statement and it is the one that can identify data name references in the CICS statement.
CICS needs to send the compiler the data names that are referenced in the CICS statements otherwise the compiler has no clue which data names are used in the CICS statement.

We will be returning this RFE back to the CICS team for further evaluation.
