This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

We are running a CICS Provider Web service. We need to compress the response. We have a transport handler which takes the response in DFHRESPONSE, zips the content into another container using a Java program, sets the http header Content-Type and sends the zipped file back to the client.
The pseudo code looks like this:
READ CONTAINER (“DFHRESPONSE”) CCSID(UTF8) INTO(DATA-AREA)
DELETE CONTAINER (“DFHRESPONSE”)
WRITE CONTAINER(“DFHRESPONSE”) FROM(DATA-AREA) BIT
ZIP DFHRESPONSE data by a java program
WRITE CONTAINER(“DFHMEDIATYPE”) FROM(“application/gzip”)
When we first tried this, it was not possible to set Content-Encoding therefore the client had to unzip the data. IBM has written a fix so that we can set Content-Encoding also. We are currently testing it.
What we would further like to have is; CICS could be enhanced to fully support encoded HTTP messages so that the compression is done by CICS, not by the application itself.

This requirements has been re-assessed. We have no plans for this to be implemented and so this requirement is being declined at this point. The requirement will be kept in the RFE system and might be reassessed in the future. You also have an opportunity to resubmit in twelve months time if you wish it to be reconsidered then.
