Add PERFORM SHUTDOWN parms to set next auto start to COLD or INITIAL

Add the optional parameters COLD and INITIAL to PERFORM SHUTDOWN to set the next non-emergency start to COLD or INITIAL in the global catalog. Setting either parameter would also avoid the overhead of writing the warm keypoint.

Note that COLD or INITIAL would take effect on a normal shutdown only.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - CICS Transaction Server

This requirement has been re-evaluated.  Looking at current plans, it is not likely that this would be implemented in the next two CICS TS releases, so correspondingly this requirement is being rejected. You have an opportunity to resubmit in eighteen months time if you wish it to be reconsidered then.

Could we satisfy the requirement if we provided an easier way for customers to interrogate the catalog to find out how CICS shut down last time ?

An architected method of interrogation would be better than nothing. It would still require some kludgy JCL.

But here's another approach: let CICS interrogate how CICS shut down the last time. Add two initialization parms: START=SAFECOLD and START=SAFEINIT; that is, conditional COLD and INITIAL starts that CICS will override to Emergency if it came down dirty.

It's likely people would end up using these parms more often than the unconditional ones.
