Give a user authority to work with definition GDG-s, but not give access to files and data.

We are trying to follow the “trend” and have infrastructure as code and store everything in our SCM system.

One of our source types are sources for define, alter or delete of a GDG-entry.

So what we store is only the definition of the GDG.

The idea is that when the GDG-source are deployed a define, alter or delete are done of a GDG definition.

When the deploy tool (UCD) deploys the source do the deploy tool use a technical userid.

The name of the GDG entries could be any name, that is valid in our environment to be used by the applications.

Our problem is that to be able to do this, for any name, the technical user need to have very high authority.

That authority will give the technical user authority to and have full access to all datasets in our system.

That is not OK!

We only want a user to be able work with the definitions of the GDG and not give access to files and data.

My idea :

Make it possible to give a user authority to define, alter or delete a GDG definition with any name,

and at the same time should the user not have access to any other dataset without been given specific authority to that dataset.

As discussed with the customer, IBM Common Services Library is not the appropriate product for this Idea. The customer will pursue opening an Idea under the appropriate product.
