Data Set Commander Batch Utility EMPTY command additional parameter

System: Product Data Set Commander Batch Utility

Author: System programmer needing work around

We are in the process of sunsetting a third party vendor product in favor of IBM's Data Set Commander (DSC) Batch Utility which provides the same functionality. We have hit a snag with IBM's Connect:Direct (C:D) using the DSC EMPTY function.

Users of C:D are given an option to empty (delete all members) of a target PDS. This was created using the third party product. When switching over to DSC, the empty process works successfully, however, DSC automatically performs a compress of the PDS which gets an authorization error. Instead of passing the authorization of the C:D user, it tries to use the authorization of the C:D started task. We need an additional parameter for the empty command to suppress the automatic compress.

after a thorough investigation of the EMPTY command, we discovered that the additional (automatically generated) COMPRESS is redundant because the EMPTY routine, after clearing the directory, resets the "Last Written Block TTR" which is equivalent to "Compress empty PDS". As a result, PTF UJ03669 (APAR OA59839) also includes the complete removal of the automatically generated COMPRESS command as well as of the NOCOMPRESS option support.

RFE ID:144294 is declined due to its irrelevance after applying PTF UJ03669.
