Configuration of DBB in IDz similar to ‘zapp.yaml’ in VSCode.

We would like to use a defined ‘zapp.yaml’ in IDz as it is configured in VSCode. So it would be much easier for the user to use the build. It is quite complicated to setup the user build for a normal host user. And it would be perfect to let the developer choose the preferred IDE. The benefit is, that the configuration is available in the central repository and can be used by every developer with every IDE.

This feature would also be very helpful for making the whole process more secure and convenient for the developer as described in this idea: https://ideas.ibm.com/ideas/IDZ-I-2059

There is currently a limitation. And it is documented in the Knowledge Center of IDz V14.x, V15.x and V16.x

    Assumptions and restrictions

    https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/developer-for-zos/16.0?topic=SSQ2R2_16.0.0/com.ibm.idz.dbbz.doc/topics/DBBz_assump_restrict.htm

under Restrictions when using a Git repository

User Build discover dependencies supports Enterprise COBOL copybooks and Enterprise

    PL/I include files.

Customers (some of them at least) expect the DBB user build to include local existing dependencies for the build on z/OS for assembler sources as it works for COBOL or PL/I sources. One customer uses ZOE to start a DBB userbuild, using the same scripts as with IDz. They use ZOE only for testing purposes at the moment, but there are plans to give their developers the opportunity to choose between the IDEs.

ZOE scans the source file to build for dependencies and resolves them based on information contained in the zapp.yaml configuration file. This works for assembler copies, but unfortunately not for assembler macros (they will open an issue in the ZOE project for that).

the zapp.yaml is a manual edited configuration for DBB userbuild and the required propertyGroups for resolving dependencies in ZOE - comparable to a local propertyGroup and the DBB configuration in IDz. A description can be found here: https://ibm.github.io/zopeneditor-about/Docs/zapp.html#zapp-use-cases (I know you know already this)

The main advantage of configuring all necessary information in a yaml file is the possibility to manage it with Git. So it is much easier for a developer to set up his environment after checking out a new project.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest an enhancement to our product. Many of our product enhancements result from feedback from our customers, so your input is always very important to us. Your request is currently in line with our product strategy and we added it as a candidate for future releases of the product. Thank you for your suggestion and continued support.
