Improve Debug Tool management of TEST Run-time Options and Save Settings and Save Breakpoints

It would be beneficial for Debug Tool to use a a common repository, or perhaps two repositories to manage the Run Time Options Data set, and the Save Settings and Breakpoints. This would improve the usability and customization processes for the Debug Tool Invocation when using EQAD3CXT, or the LE exits linked with EQAD3CXT. This file is currently managed by the Debug Tool Utilities or the Debug tool Utilities, or the Terminal Interface Manager (PF10) . There are several weaknesses with this process. Many customers want to debug programs that are invoked from remote applications. These typically do not have the tester's userid associated with them. The current solution is to modify the default name, to something like xxx.userid.DBGTOOL.EQAUOPTS. This approach seems to create other problems. If an IMS MPP or DB2 stored procedure is invoked, the tester may not know the userid associated with it, and therefore not sure what file to allocate. A big improvement would be managing these files much like the VSAM file used by the DTCN CICS transaction, where the fields can be entered, or omitted such as userid. (The tester would not have to know the userid of the transaction they are testing) The Terminal Interface Manager does not remember the name of the EQAUOPTS file. So, if the name is changed in the EQAD3CXT exit, the customer has to constantly change the name in the TIM when accessing the data using PF10. The approach of a single repository will minimize the security setup for this data.

The Save Settings userid.DBGTOOL.SAVESETS and userid.DBGTOOL.SAVEPBS data is also problematic. Any environment, such as CICS, IMS MPRs, or DB2 stored procedures must have WRITE access to the tester's files. A single repository for this information would minimize these problems. It would also be helpful to have a tool (panels in the Debug Tool Utilities) to manage the settings. Functions, such as removing your entries, or viewing your settings would be helpful.

Thank you for your submission. As this request is primarily focused on MFI, which is no longer considered strategic for updates, this request is being rejected. This functionality is available in remote debug via eclipse UI.
