Run "Create Template from Model" in batch

Run "Create Template from Model" in batch -- Is there was a way to run the FM 7.1 CM Create template from model option in batch?

We have a shared template library that I would like to convert from a VB 27994 to FB 80 . I copy them over one by one, but it would be much faster to do it in batch since there are over a 1000 templates in the PDS.

it would be nice to create a REXX function we could reuse that would take a template as input and allow you to copy it to another template file. Since File Manager accepts ANY LRECL, File type etc… as a valid template file, we have no guarantee our tools will successfully copy one template to another simply by doing a normal ISPF copy since the LRECL's could be different causing the template to become corrupted.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Development Tooling
    Product - IBM File Manager

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Enterprise Tooling
    Product - IBM File Manager

Question. Why do you want to change to FB 80 for templates? Yes they can run with FB 80 but viewing an internal template is much easier if its VB with a big LRECL. The automatic allocations in the product are for VB - so our recommendation would be the VB attributes you've mentioned over the FB attributes as they are far more suited to the template structure.

Having said that there are two options for you to perform the described task. Batch template update - BTU - you can drive from FM option 7.4 and run in the foreground or via a batch job can be used to copy and update a given set of templates. You can provide copybook names to filter the templates selected or simply use the member names to select all members in a PDS(e). The output template will be the data set where the templates will be copied to if provided. This is restricted to copybook templates for the base product, dynamic templates cannot be moved using this mechanism. ITU is for IMS templates, IVU is for IMS views and ICU is for IMS criteria sets and perform the same function.
DB2 and dynamic templates are not supported by this mechanism.

Version 12 of File Manager was enhanced in Nov 2012 to add template export and import feature which would also perform the function you are requesting. See apar PM69989 and corresponding PTFs.
FM option 7.6 Export can be used to export templates and option FM 7.5 could be used to import.  This will effectively allow the changing of file attributes.

Note the FM 7.6 and FM 7.4 member lists are way to view the templates, edit them etc, and manage them as they show a template member list and FM 7.6 the export function will show all template types supported by FM.

In finishing I'm closing this RFE as the function required has been delivered or is available already in the product.
