This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Closing as discussed above of existing Describe functionality.
As per my original comments - you should be able to see template descriptions if you scroll right on member lists from option 7.4 and 7.6. For XML templates if you are on the right level the import member list (option 7.5) will display the description. The client depending on what level you are at will also show it as I mentioned in the first comment. Most entry panels only produce ISPF statistics as the member could be a template or a copybook.
I discovered the Describe command today, which appears under F6 on the Template workbench panel. So I do see that there is an option to enter a description.
The questions that remains, as you mentioned, is how visible (and therefore usefull) is the description.
I'll do some more exploring within File Manager to check this out but in the meantime you may close this RFE.
Thanks
Just looked at the PMR- the level 2 was obviously unaware of the existing feature - apologies about the communication error, because it didn't initially have visibility it wasn't something that was well advertised - though it is in the manual and help. If your happy that its there we would like to close this RFE,
The RFE refers to File Manager under ISPF, using a non gui/RDz interface.
My understanding from the response to PMR 54416,003,756 is that currently it is not possible to add a description to a template and it was suggested that I open an RFE.
The template has always had a description field - enter the Command DESCRIBE when editing a template on the host or the click on the Information tab when editing via the client. The visibility of the description historically has probably been an issue. File Manager on the host can produce a template member list where the description is visible. Options 7.4 , 7.5 and 7.6 will all bring up member lists where the description is a displayable column. Depending on the terminal width it may not be visible by default - and you can either scroll right or use the TA command to change the default display order so its always visible. From the client if you select a data set on the systems information window so its highlighted, then the properties window will have a templates tab which you can select to see the template columns, scroll right and you will find the description. Please let us know if this meets your requirement.
