This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

EST Bottom-Up support for modern webservices

Generating webservices for the CICS in RDz is currently done by using the Enterprise Service Tools (EST) features.
It supports two different approaches, top-down and bottom-up.
The top-down approach is based on a constructed WSDL file and supports multiple operation within a service as well as unbounded arrays.
The bottom-up approach is based on a constructed Cobol or PL/I program and supports only one operation within a service and limited arrays.

The only modern way of looking at services is by adopting the top-down approach with multiple operations and unbounded arrays. BUT this leaves us with the problem of having to construct a WSDL file which is a very complex task, even with the modern WSDL editors available in Eclipse.

The best way would be to construct a Cobol or PL/I program, based on some guideline describing how to code multiple operations and unbounded arrays. From this program the bottom-up approach should be able to generate a WSDL file with the same support as the current top-down approach.

So this RFE suggest to enhance the bottom-up approach in the EST to support the same features as the top-down approach, specifically multiple operations in a service and unbounded arrays in the interface.

This RFE covers multiple feature requests and we would like to ask to separate it into two so that we can evaluate them separately.

    Please open two new RFEs;
1 - Support for generating multiple operations from COBOL data.
Please specify CICS or IMS environment and if CICS, please specify Compiled or Interpretive conversion
2 - Support for generating unbounded constructs in WSDL from
COBOL data. Please specify CICS or IMS environment and if CICS, please specify Compiled or Interpretive conversion

    Thank you

A preliminary evaluation of this request indicates that it is consistent with our business strategy. Further evaluation of this RFE is underway.
