Allow Debug Tool under RD/z to show dump format in memory displays

RD/z (when using Debug Tool) allows one to show memory in "Hex/Char". The trouble is that it does NOT, at least in my interpretation of Hex/Char format.

My definition is "dump" format (which has been around for years) where the format is:

address hex bytes characters

Type display

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for System z

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - Developer for System z

BTW, "dump" format has been in existence for MANY, MANY years. Just about anybody working on the mainframe side is used to this format, not the "separated" format that you showed me (this is OK for now)...but I really think that a "dump" format would be an excellent addition to RD/z "renderings".

Thanks for that suggestion BUT as far as I can see with doing what you suggest.....I still cannot see both together in what people refer as DUMP format. This is what I was requesting. I have to keep switching back and forth between two tabs (one say for EBCDIC and the other for HEX).

BUT, it would be nice also to be able to view ASCII and EBCDIC together as well (as well as EBCDIC/HEX together (DUMP format). In our case, our messages are dictated to be in ASCII as they are sent out to our users, but some logging functions put an EBCDIC header when logging these on the mainframe. Hence the desire to see two different formats SIMULTANEOUSLY.

I respectfully request that you do NOT reject thsi request.

    Regards,

    Kevin

RDz support's showing memory in multiple formats at the same time. This includes showing Hex and Char at the same time.

Hex and Char are called renderings in RDz.

The memory view in RDz is made up of 2 sections. The left section shows the variable or address being monitored. The right section shows the rendering or renderings of the memory at the address. The rendering section can be split into 2 panes. Each showing a different rendering.

The default layout for the memory view is 1 rendering pane.
To show 2 renderings make sure that the "Toggle Split Pane" button in the memory view toolbar is enabled.

    Renderings include
Hex, ASCII, EBCDIC, Signed and unsigned integer, and mapped memory

Each rendering pane can be set to different formats and by default they are synchronized.
When they are synchronized the position in one rendering pane is matched in the other.

It is possible to have hex and ASCII or hex and EBCDIC shown at the same time in the split pane rendering.
