Need "dump" memory display in RD/z

A previous RFE was submitted for this functionality and rejected with NO THOUGHT really give to what this customer was requesting.

The request was for a "dump" format memory display (this would be as ONE VIEW and not two separate renderings as the previous closure suggested.

A "dump" format has been in existence for MANY, MANY years. Just about anybody working on the mainframe side is used to this format, not the "separated" format that you showed me (this is OK for now)...but I really think that a "dump" format would be an excellent addition to RD/z "renderings".

The idea here is with control blocks that we have that we want to see HEX on one side of the display with character to the right. IOW, just like a dump. This rendering should be available with a single selection and not multiple renderings.

While I am opening this new RFE, I would also like to see this feature. Imagine looking at a HEX memory rendering. The provide a right click with an option to select a popup that shows the memory contents that a particular pointer value is pointing to. Make this popup non-modal so that one can do other things in debugging code (single step etc) so that the memory values display changes as the code executes. This memory display should have a "dump" format availability also.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
Product - Developer for System z

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - Developer for System z

This RFE is consistent with our strategy and is being considered for delivery within the next 2 year time frame. Thanks.

That screenshot doesn't show well in this format. There should be many IBMers that know what a "dump" format looks like, BTW. Essentially:

    Address Hex Data..........Hex Data...Character Equivalent
32 bytes (x'20') at a time left to right.

I replied via email directly on 11/10/2010 @ 12:30 PM to Saurabh Dua, but contained the text below:

    Hi,

I looked at your document. I don't see this describing what I had in mind. Below is a screenshot from some of our code here that prints logfiles.

This is what I mean by “dump” format. This would mean 2 synchronized renderings in one view in your terms, I believe.

Note that some information has been scrubbed in the column 3. I did NOT change the hex values in column 2 to match, but I suspect that you can get enough information from the above to see what I am talking about. Our code shows the relative offset here in column 1 as this is done record by record.

FTP will not work here. We are very restricted in how and when we can use FTP. Even emailing in a Word document might get quarantined by LEO here. If you can email a text document that should work OK (kevin.evans@leo.gov). If that doesn't work try kevmeist@gmail.com (which will obviously be OK with the Word document).

Sorry for the mess..it's stuff that we have to live with every day .

    Kevin,
We have put together some information to ensure we understand the request correctly. I am attaching a word document to this RFE. Can you please take a look and let know what you think. The attachment is "Memory view.doc". Thanks.
