DFS3CATQ API Open call with the DEFINITION=CONCAT

We at BMC are utilizing the DFS3CATQ API Open call with the DEFINITION=BOTH parameter that allows for requesting IMS control blocks from either STAGING or ACTIVE IMS Directories. We have multiple scenarios in our products code base where it is necessary to load IMS DBD control blocks that may be related (either logical or index relationships) from the STAGING IMS Directory (to acquire any change being implemented) and if not present in the STAGING IMS Directory performing a follow-up call to request the control block from the ACTIVE IMS Directory (when a related DBD control block is not being changed.

We were wondering if this scenario might warrant a GET call to request a DBD or ACB control block that would return the requested control block from STAGING IMS Directory (if present in STAGING) or the ACTIVE IMS Directory (if not present in STAGING). It would seem this situation would apply to other customers and might simplify the use of the DFS3CATQ API.
In order to have GET look in both the staging and the active directories, you could provide support for a concatenation of staging and active directories on a single OPEN request.
So a single FUNCTION=OPEN, DEFINITION=CONCAT (for example) would place staging ahead of active, (kind of like the concatenation you see in JCL).
Then the GET request would return the blocks from staging directory first, if found in staging. Otherwise, it would return it from the active directory if in active.
We do not need to know whether it came from staging or from active.

    Hi Anshul,
Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.

At this time, after reviewing this request for enhancement we have decided to reject it. The reason we are rejecting RFE 151563 is that we believe this RFE is a duplicate of RFE 151562. And since we have accepted RFE 151562, we will reject RFE 151563 as a duplicate. Let us know if our understanding of the two RFEs is incorrect. Thanks.

We appreciate your input to IMS, and we hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of IMS.

    Have a great day!
