Please remove the latch requirement for DMB obtained during DB compression

We had some IMS BMP performance related issues that showed the more jobs we ran on an LPAR against the same database/partition the slower the jobs would run. Upon review of the IMS Monitor reports and IMS latching log records we noticed a rather sizeable delay on the DMBB latch.

We have a HALDB database that contains 100 partitions which use compression on several segments, and we have noticed that as more, and more BMPs access the DB they all slow down. After running some IMS Monitor reports I can see that the majority of our wait time is tied to the latching on the DMBB latch. The more jobs we run the worse the latching becomes. In fact the jobs can run several times time longer. When we run just a handle full of jobs they seem to run just fine; however if we go from around 5 to 13 BMPs we start seeing delays, and if we go from 13 to 50 the BMPs can run over an hour instead of the normal 10-15 minutes.

    Hi Gary,
Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.

At this time, after reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, we have decided to reject it. The reason we are rejecting RFE 36920 because not holding the latch in some cases may have the risk of an unintended consequence. We feel this risk outweighs the benefits of this enhancement. We have cancelled the APARs we had initially created for this RFE. And I believe Greg had also sent you an email about our findings & our decision to not proceed with this RFE.

We appreciate your input to IMS, and we hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of IMS.

    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Deepak Kohli - deepakk@us.ibm.com
