Allow DEDB Area Level Change with FPSI defined, while DEDB is active to the IMS Control Region.

We add FP areas to the end of DEDBs while the DEDB is active to the IMS control Region (DBCTL), using BMC Software's Delta IMS product to execute DEDB Area Level Change. When attempt is made to execute DEDB Area Level Change for a DEDB with FPSI defined, while the DEDB is active to the IMS control region, abends with FH, NE, etc. are returned in the CICS regions.
BMC's Delta IMS Area Level Change allows for the randomizer to be reloaded during the addition of FP areas, resulting in what appears to be the secondary index maintenance quiesced, the randomizer being deleted then reloaded, and what appears to be the secondary index maintenance resuming with no abends in the CICS regions.
We would like to continue adding FP areas to the end of DEDBs while the DEDB is active to the IMS Control Region and attached CICS regions are executing, with no issues, even if DEDBs have FPSI defined.

    Hi Ron,

Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.
When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.
At this time, after reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, we have decided to reject it. The reason we are rejecting RFE 102933 is because we have decided to make this type of DEDB enhancement available as a tool. The tools organization is actively working on designing this enhancement. For further details, you may contact Tracy Dean from our tools organization at tld1@us.ibm.com.
We appreciate your input to IMS, and we hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of IMS.
    Thank you.
    Sincerely,
    Deepak Kohli - deepakk@us.ibm.com

    Hi,

After reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, our decision is to add this item to our backlog. Items in our backlog are expected to be delivered within the next 18 months. We reserve the right to re-prioritize our backlog items as new requests come in. This helps ensure that we are constantly focused on providing the best value to all of our clients.

    Have a great day!
