Validate input to DFSEIPB0

In this case, a COBOL program made a call and passed garbage as the input parameter list. DFSEIPB0 happily used this and issued a GETMAIN for close to 16M of below the line storage which is impossible to satisfy and resulted in an ABEND80A. With no other information to go on other than an ABEND80A in an IMS module, an SR had to be opened to determine what the problem was. If DFSEIPB0 had validity checked the input, it could have returned a meaningful return code or issued a message that would avoid the need for an SR and saved days worth of time.

    Hi Joseph Marsh,

Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.

At this time, after reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, we have decided to reject it. The reason we are rejecting RFE ID 116648 is because we need more customer interest and given our current priorities we cannot in good faith get to this within 18 months.

If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your continue support with IMS.
