IE4D: Edit transaction layout without re-importing data structure

In IE4D if I have to change the IMS transaction mapping but have changed the names of all the fields and provided descriptions on the original map then as far as I can see I have lost all that if I have to re-import the data structure. So what is required is a way to modify the transaction without having to re-import the data structure.

Extract from email from Nathan Church :
"To address your concern below regarding editing things about your tranMsg metadata and not losing that work if you need to reimport a data structure is something that could be handled if we provide a "Manage Field" wizard with the transaction editor. This would enable you to manually Add, Edit, remove fields according to the transaction program changes and maintain any previous editing you may have done, rather than re-importing the entire new data structure. This is something we'd like to do, and just haven't gotten to yet. It would help us to get there if you could open an RFE."

An alternative to having to edit the mapping in IE4D is to be able to extract and reload (JSON or XML) the name and description metadata, keyed on data structure field name.
