Automatically Include Logically Related Databases in IMS DRF Recovery

We would like to request an enhancement to IMS Database Recovery Facility (DRF) to improve its handling of logically related databases during recovery operations.

Currently, DRF only recovers the database explicitly specified in the input statement. However, if that database is part of a logical relationship, DRF does not automatically include the other logically related databases in the recovery process. While the Pointer Checker component of DRF does issue a warning when not all related databases are specified, this is only informational and does not trigger automatic inclusion or recovery of the related databases.

In contrast, other IBM IMS tools such as:

  • IMS Online Reorganization Facility
  • IMS Recovery Expert

...already support automatic inclusion of all logically related databases when only one is specified. This ensures data consistency and simplifies recovery operations.

This function already exists in IMS Recovery Expert (which is a front-end to Database Recovery Facility) and both DRF and IMS Recovery Expert are in IMS Recovery Solution Pack. Given other items in our backlog and the availability of this function in IMS Recovery Expert, we are not able to accept this idea.
