Set IMS Fast Path NBA/OBA Default Values

I would like to have IBM provide an IMS level default value for Fast
Path NBA/OBA parameter. A couple of years ago we added some new Fast
Path DEDB SDEP databases to IMS to be used by the applications for
logging. These databases needed to be updated by just about every CICS
transaction (DBCTL) and IMS BMPs. For the CICS threads this wasn't an
issue because we already had Fast Path databases used by online
transactions; however, that wasn't the case with BMPs. In fact the
vast majority of BMPs did not use Fast Path. Updating 1000's of batch
jobs and 100's of batch procedures to add NBA/OBA parameter wasn't
going to be a feasible solution. To address this issue I created a
USERMOD within module DFSRRA40 to set a NBA/OBA value for BMPs if field
RCNBA and/or RCOBA contained low-values.
What I would like from IBM is a value to be set within the DFSDF000
Fast Path Section that would allow a values to be set for the NBA/OBA
for transactions (including CICS Threads) and BMPs if no value is
provided within the JCL or within the DRA table in the case of CICS
Threads. If value is provided in the DRA table or JCL I would like
that value to be honored.

    Hi Gary,

    Hope you are well.
Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.

After reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, our decision is to go ahead and implement your request.
APAR PI96754 is open and the target date is: August 15 2018.

Let us know if there are any questions.

    Have a great day!
    Deepak Kohli - deepakk@us.ibm.com
