Request to Increase the Maximum INTENT LIST Length Beyond 64K in IMS

We would like to request that the maximum allowable length of the INTENT LIST in IBM Information Management System (IMS) be increased beyond the current 64K limit.

During ACBGEN processing, we encountered the DFS2558I message indicating that the INTENT LIST length had exceeded 64K.

  • The number of PCBs defined in the PSB is within the documented upper limit of 2,500, so we are not exceeding the manual's specification.
  • Our customer has a business requirement to define approximately 1,900 PCBs in a single PSB.
  • When we defined around 1,900 PCBs, the resulting INTENT LIST length was 77,844 bytes.

Since this requirement falls within the manual’s PCB limits but still exceeds the INTENT LIST limit, we request that IBM consider enhancing IMS to support a longer INTENT LIST.

This enhancement would greatly benefit customers with large-scale application environments requiring a high number of PCB definitions in a PSB.

Thank you for your consideration.
