This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

IMS AMS - Advanced Message Service

Implement IMS functionality to support MQ Series Advanced Message Services (AMS) for transactions using the IMS-bridge connection.
IMS applications are already today able explore this functionality if the design is to use MQ explicit access to the MQ queue. But explicit access to MQ comes with some limitations and increased cost.
Limitations such as that a transactions need to be executed serialized since the trigger mechanism in MQ is based on the MQ queue and an application by default reads one triggered queue.
Compared to IMS were one or more instances of a program reads the same queue and therefor by default can access transactions from the IMS queue in parallel.
The increased cost is introduced with the extra MQI calls needed since the application now have to access the data from the MQ queue (using MQCONN, MQOPEN, MQGET, MQCLOSE and MQDISCON).
With this overhead execution- and responsetimes can also be increased so much that an IMS transactions that would benefit of 'AMS' takes to long to execute.
If the 'AMS' functionality can be supported by IMS (OTMA), the IMS applications will be able to use 'AMS' fuctionality to a lower cost and for applications that need to be scalable.
Two options/places to have the encrypted data terminated.
1st option is when data is delivered from OTMA, before it gets written to the IMS queue.
2nd option is to have data encrypted all the way to the application and decrypt at GU/GN time.
With the second option we will get an end-to-end secure connection between the client and application.

    Hi Curt,

Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

This RFE is being evaluated to be addressed via RFE 22842 by IBM MQ.

We appreciate your input to IMS, and we hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of IMS.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Daphne Isom - dsteele4@us.ibm.com
