Db2 OpenTelemetry support in IntelliMagic Vision (IFCID 394)

With Db2 13, IBM introduced IFCID 394, a low‑overhead Statistics Class 1 SMF record that captures Db2 OpenTelemetry (OTel) processing activity.  While IntelliMagic Vision already analyzes Db2 Statistics (SMF 100), this information is currently not surfaced, creating a visibility gap as customers adopt OpenTelemetry.

With Db2 13, IBM introduced IFCID 394, a low-overhead Statistics Class 1 SMF record that captures Db2 OpenTelemetry (OTel) processing activity.

As adoption of OpenTelemetry continues to grow for distributed observability, visibility into Db2’s OTel processing becomes increasingly important. Currently, IntelliMagic Vision analyzes Db2 Statistics (SMF 100), but IFCID 394 data is not surfaced, creating a clear gap in monitoring and analysis for Db2-integrated observability workflows.

    This limits customers’ ability to:

    • Understand and control OpenTelemetry processing overhead
    • Detect anomalies or inefficiencies in trace generation
    • Correlate Db2 activity with end-to-end distributed traces

    Proposed Enhancement
Enhance IntelliMagic Vision to ingest, extract, and visualize IFCID 394 metrics, including:

    • OTel activity counts and rates
    • Processing latency
    • Resource utilization

This capability could be delivered through dashboards, trend analysis, and anomaly detection.

    Value
Enabling this would align IntelliMagic Vision with modern observability platforms and better support customers managing hybrid and distributed environments. This requirement is expected to become increasingly relevant as more customers adopt OpenTelemetry-based observability.
