Omegamon for z/OS needs to adjust the skip&count formula

The Omegamon for z/OS skip&count formula being used to determine which TCPIP port various Omegamon components bind to needs to be adjusted so the range of ports selected are in a more refined group of ports instead of spread out across the 65K ports using an indent value of 4096. We need the formula changed so the indent value is reduced so we can reserve a "pool" of ports in our TCPIP portrange reservation list similar to what is being done for other Omegamon TCPIP port pool definitions: &KDS_KDETP_OPTIONS &KDE_LOOPBACK_POOL KAG_KDETP_HTTP_OPTIONS The problem with the current formula is that Omegamon will try to use ports that are already reserved for other applications within the 65K port range. This causes a conflict when trying to manage the reserved ports in TCPIP. The problem gets exacerbated when we have LPARs with 1000s of ports to manage and reserve.

Thank you for submitting this Idea however implementation costs, possible impact and disruption to other customers is very high. The technical recommendation is to not make this change. While we like the goal after an extensive research effort the result concluded that multiple changes needed would put customers at risk of a disruption in service. Please reach out if you have any questions or disagree with our decision. Regards IBM OMEGAMON Product Management
