EPLI V4.3 - VARLENGTH data-type for implementation size of VAR CHAR leading length field

We would ask for a new data-type VARLENGTH (or something similar) which has the same size as the actual implementation size of a VAR CHAR leading length field (which is 2-bytes at the moment).

    Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
    Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
    Product - PL/I Compilers

    For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
    Product family - Design & development
    Product - PL/I Compilers

    The size of the VARYING prefix is not going to change. The new VARYING4 attribute instead provides for strings with a 4-byte length field

    this was not part of Enterprise PL/I 4.5 - it was mistakenly marked as such out of confusion with a different RFE

    Why not simply use the pre-processor to define your own VARLENGTH type:

    %DCL VARLENGTH CHAR;

    %VARLENGTH = "FIXED BIN (15)"; /* or CHAR(2) if alignment matters */
