Multi-compare builtin

In code it is not uncommon to have compares of the type

if a > b | (a = b & c > d | (c = d & e > f)) then

A builtin function of the type

if "multicompare"(a > b, c > d, e > f, ...) then

comparable to the new "between" and "inlist" delivered in Enterprise PL/I V4.5 would simplify setting up such compares, and could potentially eliminate multiple compares of a & b by reusing the result of the a > b compare for the a = b compare.

The function would expand all but the last compare into the format of the type specified at the top of this RFE, i.e. a

if "multicompare"(a > b, c < d, e > f, g < h) then

would generate code that is equivalent to

if a > b | (a = b & c < d | (c = d & e > f | (e = f & g < h))) then

    this function seems to be somewhat complicated given its limited usefulness, and the function could be provided by a macro. In either case, it should probably be defined with just a list of operands and without operators; so that multicompare( a, b, c, d ) would become ( a > b | (a=b & c > d) )
