This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

Hello EGL developer,
we are an IBM partner and developing Migration Tools for migrating from RPG or Cobol to EGL. We are missing an EGL primitive type for unsigned numeric data like in Cobol.
Of course it would be possible to define an own data item part wich adheres to the Cobol unsigned type, but we think it would be better to include such type to the EGL primitive types. We think that because this is a frequently used data type in Cobol and you could program that type closer to the generated Java Code regarding performance and internal representation of that type. For generating to Cobol you just could use the Cobol unsigned type.
Please keep in mind, that the behavior of that type should adhere to the behavior of the Cobol unsingned type, i.e. that for example assigning a negative value should result in asigning the absolute value of it. In fact you could use the Cobol unsigned type as reference type and program the generated Java for that type to behave exactly like that Cobol type.
kind regards
Andreas Gronert

IBM Business Developer is a continuous delivery offering, and aims to satisfy the needs of a rapidly evolving market segment. Product strategy evolves and requirements are continuously evaluated against that strategy. This RFE has recently been reappraised against the wider product strategy and does not fall into IBMs delivery plans for the next 12 month. Whilst this RFE might be valid and we might look to deliver longer term, this RFE is being rejected at this time.
This RFE is more than a decade old. It might not be relevant now. Please create a new RFE if this requirement still exists. This RFE is more than a decade old. It might not be relevant now. Please create a new RFE if this requirement still exists.

Dear Sir or Madam,
would you please write about your plans to implement this unsigned numeric type with egl?
kind regards

Thank yor for this suggestion. We expect to expand our support of numeric data types in a future release.
