Automation Server job status

It would be useful to have a field in the HSIACDS dataset that customers could update with the result of the job execution. Customers could add a job step to update the ACDS with an RC or other status information. Maybe 'FAILED' or 'WAITING RERUN' or whatever a customer might choose to implement. Maybe 20 or 25 characters.

ACDS keys could be a symbol allowed in the job in order to facilitate updating the correct record for this job. Recommended use would be as a SET symbol which is then consumed in the job step using SYMBOLS=. Customer is completely responsible for the actual implementation.

This would enable re-run after correcting a problem. It would be much more efficient to identify the failed jobs and schedule them for rerun. Possibly by deleting those entries so they become eligible for processing again. Or other manual re-run options at the discretion of the customer.

It would also be helpful to provide a sample update REXX script so customers properly update the status field. This would be a sample only and the customer would be responsible for proper error handling and other details. The sample would make it more likely the customer would update the proper field.

The ACDS would need to be defined and opened for shared access.

    Hi Joe,

Similar function to what you have requested will be added to the next release. There will be a new program added that will allow you to see current status of the data in the ACDS.

Program HSIAUTL - the Automation Server Utility program - would support the following request types:

    • LISTALL - list records without regard to the progress status. LISTPEND - list records pertaining to incomplete actions.

    • LISTDONE - list records pertaining to completed actions.

    • LISTRC - list a specific record and issue a return code based on its status.

    • MAKEPEND - convert a completed record to a pending record.

    • MAKEDONE - convert a pending record to a completed record.

    Regards

    Jim K
