(TPFUG/Visa) Provide tooling to create a consolidated view of Migration Considerations for a user defined batch of APARs

Understanding migration considerations is a critical part of installing APARs. Each APEDIT has a MIGRATION CONSIDERATIONS section for IBM to document various APAR impacts including: Functional automation and operation changes, API changes, SIP impacts, Hardware Software and Configuration Changes, User Exit Changes, Build and load process changes etc. However, there is no tooling provided to consolidate these impacts into a single document for a user defined batch of APARs.

Lack of tooling is not a problem when only one or two APARs are being applied, but when a sizeable batch of APARs is being applied lack of tooling imposes a time/accuracy burden on the users who must either extract and organize this information from each APAR manually or develop internal tooling to automate the process.

We need IBM provided tooling that will stay current with APEDIT content conventions. The new tool needs to create a single document containing a consolidated view of all Migration Considerations from a user specified batch of APARS. Specifically, the tool should:

  • Accept a user defined batch of APARs to include using the APAR close sequence number. The batch definition may include one or more ranges of contiguous close sequence numbers and individual close sequence numbers.

    • g. close sequence numbers 5106-5117,5134, 5135-5140, 5159

  • Extract the MIGRATION CONSIDERATIONS from each APAR in the batch and create a single document

    1. that contains all this information, organized by sub-type (i.e. Functional automation and operations changes, API impacts, SIP impacts etc are all different sub-types of MIGRATION CONSIDERATIONS).

    2. within each sub-type, the extracted information should include the APAR number and short description, as well as the text detail for that sub-type from the APEDIT

See attached for example suggestion for consolidated document layout:
