We don’t have insight into all the data in AWS so we don’t know what the highwater maximum message sizes before/after compression and mqm we are sending out are.

Regarding average and largest uncompressed message sizes, I nor the customer are aware of any existing tools available to gather this information for IBM BEV dispatch queues. Additionally, while I was on vacation the customer requested in November that I open an IBM Idea:

What: Update the ZMQSC DISP QL Display to contain the following data:

  • Highwater mark maximum message size before Compression
  • Highwater mark maximum message size after Compression
  • Highwater mark for mqm used by the queue

The IBM z/TPF lab is looking for business justification as to how these new statistics will be used, if at all.

There is nothing to tune based on the maximum message this queue has processed, except perhaps trying to determine what the business event buffer should be set to. However, do we want to make a decision about that based on this value? Let's say the average message size was 3000 bytes and one message out of 1 million was 20K. Should anything be adjusted based on that information?

Before the lab can proceed with this idea, please let us know how the new statistics will be used. Thank you.
