Limiting the number of trace files in Performance Analyzer

System: z/TPF Toolkit Performance Analyzer

Actor: Program developers using the Toolkit PA

Description: It's possible for Performance Analyzer (PA) to run a whole heck of a lot of times if the program(s) being analyzed for a given registration
entry is entered a lot. This is especially true if wildcards are use in the Program Mask at registration time. In this situation, PA post-processing can cause the a lot of 1MB frames to be used by the PA.
In an extreme case the PA can run the system out of 1MB frames.
An idea to control the use of 1MB frames by the PA is to add a "use count" and "max use" fields to debugger registration table, to be used by the PA, for the purpose of limiting the number of times a registration entry could be used. If max count is non-zero, the use count could be incremented when the PA entry is switched from ACTIVE to INUSE. This limiting would serve to control how many times the PA can run for a given registration entry and thus limit excessive use of 1MB frames by the PA. Maybe the ZDBUG command could be used to set/clear the field.
