IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

ZMOWN should track core usage and track high water marks

1Mb frame usage and 4K frame usage is not included in ZMOWN statistics. This means that ZMOWN is unable to provide a breakdown of use these critical system resources by owner name. This information would provide critical insight in trouble shooting, performance testing, capacity planning, and application benchmarking.

The following metrics should be added to ZMOWN, at least when block and heap check mode are off:
1) number of 1Mb frames used to back 31 bit ecb heap
2) number of 1Mb frames used to back 64 bit ecb heap
3) total number of 1Mb frames attached to the ECB
4) total number of 4K frames attached to the ECB.

We think it's very beneficial to be able to differentiate between 1Mb frames used for the 2 types of ecb heap usage and "other" usage. A single count of 1Mb frames is not granular enough.

In addtion, while it may not make sense for all metrics, particularly since the owner name may change during the ECB's life and therefore the same ECB may stroke coutners in different owner name buckets, there could be benefit in maintaining a high water mark for ZMOWN statistics.

IBM intends to add this information to Real-time runtime metrics collection (RTMC) as part of idea TPF-I-991
    (https://ibm-z-software-portal.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/TPF-I-991).
IBM does not intend to add this information to ZMOWN in the foreseeable future.

PJ42754 delivered several requested counters. However we still see significant benefit in providing
    1) # of attached 1Mb frames used to back 31bit ECB heap
    2) # of attached 1Mb frames used to back 64bit ECB heap
This would be in addition to the total number of attached 1Mb frames added by PJ42754.

Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/TPF

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - z/TPF
