IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Data Collection to count the number of 3ms wait-state PSWs due to DLAYC/DEFRC/YIELDC activity

In CCNUCL there is logic to load a 3ms wait-state PSW after 5 consecutive DLAYC/DEFRC/YIELDC calls if no additional tasks were scheduled from the Ready list.
This RFE is to request that Data Collection keeps a count of these wait-state PSWs and reports them via the Data Reduction reports.
The counts should be per I-stream and ideally include the program name of the DLAYC/DEFRC/YIELDC caller.
This feature/request is only relevant for shared PR/SM or VPARs based TPF systems.

Based on resources and priorities, IBM does not intend to do this in the foreseeable future.
There are some existing options that can be used to obtain the information:

    Use the ZTRAP macro analysis.
ZTRAP MA M=DEFER shows a sample of programs doing DEFERs.
ZTRAP MA M=DLAYC shows a sample of programs doing DLAYCs.

Use the resource usage by owner name collection.
The resource usage report that is produced contains a column that gives the total amount of defer time, delay time or both in microseconds in the time period.
Then ZTRAP could be used to narrow it down by program.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/TPF

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - z/TPF

The additional information would help to identify DLAYC loops that are triggering the 3ms wait state PSW, there are several applications here that code DLAYC loops to check the status of a global to wait for child ECBs or loop on a LODIC call to wait for system resources.
Currently we have no indication if these loops are triggering the 3ms wait state and how frequently this is occuring.
I would like to ask applications to change these loops but I need some performance data to justify this requirement.

Please provide more information on what this would be used for.
