IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

S14003 SABRE Implement TPF/DF work on zIIP processors

TPFUG_Req_Number: S14003
ORIGIN DATE: 2/21/2014
REQUIREMENT ABSTRACT (required)

zTPF zIIP Exploitation for TPF/DF, XML parsing

REQUIREMENT DESCRIPTION

zTPF modifications should be made to enable customers use of zIIP engines for specifically marketed IBM workloads. TPF/DF, XML parsing are two potentially CPU intense processing workloads that TPF customers have seen tremendous growth in recent years. The option of enabling some TPF/DF and XML parsing workloads to execute on zIIP engines can be introduced into the specific program areas such that TPF customers could leverage zIIP processors for specific workloads. The details of the design are not unique for operating systems and middleware, so the details of how this is integrated into the operating system and the middleware is not provided.

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS (optional)

Stability and high availability have always been paramount design features of the TPF suite. Implementation of this feature should adhere to the present standards of TPF software delivery. Announcement of the feature availability must provide sufficient notice and/or contractual term releases to enable wide customer adoption. This includes flexible migration options, full zIIP exploitation for IBM utility workloads.

ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS (optional)

SOLUTION CONSIDERATIONS (required)

zIIP exploitation for TPF/DF and other IBM Middleware functions such that different CPU clock speeds for a GP & zIIP processor do not interfere with operability of workloads. IBM has the hardware, instruction set, and the middleware in question. The recommended offload-requirements for zIIP exploitation should maintain comparable to DB2 & z/OS levels. Limits on specific hardware and software releases should be on currently supported zTPF hardware and z/TPF, TPF/DF software releases.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/TPF

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - z/TPF
