Need to access peer certificate in shared-SSL session

We are converting a fairly large network from regular IP sockets to TLS1.2 sockets. We will be using INETD shared-SSL support for these connections. Our security department has a requirement to perform additional checks against the client certificate, which is not accessible to the application. You do have the SSL_get_peer_certificate_FQDN and the SSL_get_peer_certificate_subject_info APIs to pull these areas from the peer certificate. We would like another API to either present the complete x509 certificate, or an API where we can request other fields from the certificate. (Specifically we need the serial number, although other fields have also been discussed.)

Status update from IBM on 8/31/18: This RFE has not been started and is not currently in plan. We have a queue of things to finish in 2018, so we really don't see this getting done until 2019. Is there a drop dead end date that this support would be needed?

Can I please get an update on where this RFE stands? Our security group is opening this request again and I have no good answer at this point.
