Additional information required in CTL-E08 dumps would aid diagnosis

The way CTL-E08 dumps are driven means that the resource that was held for too long is only available in the dump if the macro trace happens to go back far enough to show the ENQC. The makes it unnecessarily difficult to diagnose root cause.

The resource name should always be available in a CTL-E08. This could be achieved by moving the resource name into the ECB that will take the dump at the time that its CE3PSW is updated to adress the CTL-E08 dump code.

In addition, adding IIEF and ISWBUSE to CTL-E08s would help detect if queues are building to the resource name (possibly because ECB owners are holding the resource for too long) causing throughput issues.

I think you actually did deliver the rest of this RFE. PJ44321 included a change so that the event name was added to a E08 dump. So thank you.

z/TPF APAR PJ44567 changed the dump override for the event facility dumps to dump the in-use SWBs and the event facility table. IBM does not expect to implement the remainder of this RFE in the foreseeable future.
